Tourist trains
Passenger rail is a priority for the Mexican government and an attractive option for medium and long routes. Some of the most important lines include:
-
Chepe Express (Chihuahua to Sinaloa, crossing the Copper Canyon).
-
Maya Train, with 35 stations across the Yucatan Peninsula.
-
Interoceanic Train (Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz to Salina Cruz, Oaxaca and to Palenque, Chiapas). Two routes are operating and a third is under construction.
-
Suburban Train (Mexico City, Buenavista to Cuautitlan).
-
Insurgente Train (Mexico City, Observatorio to Toluca).
-
Tequila Express (departing from Guadalajara through the Tequila region of Jalisco).
It remains important to learn as much as possible about transportation options in every city you plan to visit.
